正是這張照片，開啟了葉景呂連續62年拍攝肖像的個人影像誌。

照片中葉景呂看上去還有些稚嫩，有些憔悴。他仍然蓄辮，但已經剃髮，身穿清代男子的常穿的短衫、長褲、圓口布鞋，右手拄一把洋傘，身體正對著相機。

這家照相館的背景雖然略顯單調，但左側隱約可見雕花窗欞和帷幔。道具中西合璧，這也是當時很多沿海開放口岸照相館的典型配備：代表現代的西洋鐘，代表風雅的假花，代表禮儀的一對茶碗和代表學問的一函書籍，擺放在一張三足圓桌上。

古時服孝期一般是三年，這年是葉景呂祖母去世第二年。

Esta é a fotografia que inicia a série de auto-retratos anuais de Ye Jinglü. Ye Jinglü parece um tanto abatido e ainda algo imaturo. Ainda usa trança mas a sua cabeça está rapada. Traja de branco: um casaco curto, calças compridas e sapatos em tecido redondos à frente, um traje masculino comum na Dinastia Qing. Segura um guarda-chuva de estilo ocidental na sua mão direita e o seu corpo está directamente virado para a câmara.

O cenário é simples: à esquerda uma janela de moldura entalhada em relevo e um pesado reposteiro. Como era comum em muitos portos francos na costa oriental da China, os adereços são uma mistura de objectos orientais e ocidentais: um relógio ocidental, simbolizando a modernidade; um ramo de flores artificiais, a elegância; um par de chávenas de chá, a etiqueta e livros, a sabedoria. Estão todos sobre uma mesa redonda com três pernas. 

 Era tradição o período de nojo, após a morte de um familiar durar três anos. Este foi o segundo ano após o falecimento da avó de Ye Jinglü.

This is the photo that started Ye Jinglu’s personal image history.

Ye Jinglu looks rather weary, and still somewhat immature. He still wears a pigtail but his head is shaved. He wears a short jacket, long trousers, and round-mouthed cloth shoes, a common outfit for men in the Qing Dynasty. He has a foreign umbrella in his right hand and his body points straight to the camera.

The background is a little plain, but on the left are some just about visible relief-carved window frames and curtains. As was common in many open-port cities on the east coast, the props are a mix of Eastern and Western objects: a Western clock standing for modernity, a bunch of artificial flowers for elegance, a pair of tea cups for social manners, and books for learning, all placed on a three-legged round table.

In the past, the mourning period was generally three years. This was the second year following the demise of Ye Jinglu’s grandmother.
