政權鼎革，時代巨變。就在毛澤東向全世界宣佈中國人民共和國“中央人民政府成立了”的當天，葉景呂拍攝了這幀年度肖像。這也許是一個飽經滄桑的“生意人”最直接的政治態度的表達。 

葉景呂一身白色的短衣長褲，坐在一張中西合璧的單扶手的靠背椅上，擺出了一個讀報的姿勢，照相館背景是白色的花簇。 

在以前所有照片中，葉景呂都是直視或側視鏡頭，這張照片卻一改常態，作認真閱讀狀，舉手投足之間，顯示出了心情的放鬆和從容。這個姿勢，無疑是模仿1949年4月徐肖冰在北京香山為毛澤東拍攝的讀報的照片，每天都看書讀報的葉景呂，肯定對當年發表的那張毛主席的照片印象深刻，這才會去刻意模仿。

Ye Jinglü escolheu o dia da fundação da República Popular da China para tirar a sua fotografia anual. 

Uma nova era tinha chegado. Na fotografia ele veste um casaco branco curto e calças. Está sentado, a ler um jornal, numa cadeira de um braço que mistura as características Chinesa e Ocidental. O cenário é constituído por flores brancas. 

Em todas as fotos anteriores, Ye Jinglü olha para a câmara directamente ou de lado. Esta é diferente: os seus olhos estão direccionados para o jornal. A pose é uma imitação da fotografia do Presidente Mao a ler um jornal tirada pelo famoso fotógrafo Xu Xiaobing, nas Montanhas Perfumadas nos arredores de Pequim em Abril de 1949. Ye Jinglü, que lia jornais diariamente, tinha definitivamente ficado profundamente impressionado com aquela fotografia do Presidente Mao publicada mais cedo naquele ano, daí a consciente imitação da mesma. A sua atitude e pose mostram que está descontraído e tranquilo no seu coração.

Ye Jinglü selected the day of the foundation of the People’s Republic of China to take his annual portrait. 

A new era had arrived. In the photo he wears a white short jacket and trousers. He is seated, reading a newspaper, on a single-armed chair that mixes Chinese and Western features. White flowers form the studio background. 

In all the previous photos, Ye Jinglü looks straight or obliquely at the camera. This one is very different: his eyes are directed at the newspaper. The pose is an imitation of the photo of Chairman Mao reading a newspaper taken by the famous photographer Xu Xiaobing, at the Fragrant Hills outside Beijing in April 1949. Ye Jinglü who read the newspapers every day had definitely been deeply impressed by that photo of Chairman Mao published earlier that year, hence the conscious imitation of it. His gesture and pose show he is relaxed and easy in his heart.
