葉景呂在9月1日拍攝肖像。他在照片記錄中說：“正在建議上書毛主席以九一為老人節”。我們雖然不知其細節，但直到１９８９年，中國才把每年農曆九月九日定為了“老人節”。照片中葉景呂神情嚴肅，似乎還真有點公車上書，帝心難測的悲壯。他第一次穿短袖照相，右手拿摺扇，左腕配戴手錶。
關於自己的歲數，他特地標明：“西曆71歲=癸巳73歲”。這年他的年齡按西曆計算，應當是72歲，按農曆計算則是73歲。所以，不知這裡“71歲”是筆誤還是經歷“污濁之年”後另有含義。

Neste ano, o retrato de Ye Jinglü foi fotografado no dia 1 de Setembro. A respeito desta fotografia regista: “Sugeri que escrevêssemos uma carta ao Presidente Mao a propor-lhe que estabelecesse o dia 1 de Setembro como o Dia da Pessoa Idosa”. Não há qualquer ideia a respeito dos detalhes deste assunto na época e foi apenas em 1989 que a China estabeleceu o nono dia do nono mês do calendário lunar como o “Dia da Pessoa Idosa”. Na fotografia, Ye Jinglü parece sério, algo triste e até solene. Pela primeira vez usa roupa com mangas curtas, segura um leque na mão direita e usa um relógio no pulso esquerdo.
Ye Jinglü faz uma nota especial sobre a sua idade: “71 de acordo com o novo calendário é o equivalente a 73 no esquema antigo”. Com efeito, a sua idade era 72 anos de acordo com o novo calendário.
