在這年的肖像照中，葉景呂還是一身長袍，但把雙手揣在兜裡，坐在一把單扶手靠背椅上。這年，抗日戰爭全面爆發，羅家的生意——當鋪和茶莊相繼倒閉，葉景呂失去了大掌櫃的工作，雙眉微蹙，有些失落，但似乎又在盡力表現出一種自持。 

照片背景是傳統的中式住宅，腳下是水泥地面，從左臉上明顯的陰影來判斷，這幅照片像是實景拍攝，但從葉景呂身後擺放的臺階來看，又很像照相館的道具。

A novidade neste ano é que Ye Jinglü coloca pela primeira vez as mãos nas mangas da sua longa cabaia. Está sentado numa cadeira de um braço. Foi neste ano que rebentou a guerra contra a agressão japonesa. Os negócios da família Lo, nomeadamente as lojas de penhores e de chá, entraram em insolvência uma após a outra e Ye Jinglü perdeu o seu emprego como chefe gerente. As suas sobrancelhas aparecem ligeiramente franzidas e o seu rosto apresenta sinais de desapontamento: neste retrato ele parece estar a tentar ao máximo manter o seu orgulho.

O cenário apresenta uma residência de estilo tradicional chinês e o chão por baixo dos seus pés é de cimento. A julgar pela sombra óbvia na sua face esquerda, a fotografia parece ter sido tirada num cenário real, mas os degraus artificiais atrás de Ye Jinglü apontam para a existência de adereços de estúdio.

This year’s innovation is that Ye Jinglü puts his hands in the sleeves of his long robe for the first time. He sits on a single-armed chair. It was in this year that all-out war against Japanese aggression broke out. The Lo family businesses, namely the pawnshop and the tea shop, went bankrupt one after another and Ye Jinglü lost his job of chief manager. His eyebrows frown slightly and his face bears traces or disappointment: he seems, in the portrait, to be trying hard to maintain his pride.

In the background is a traditional Chinese-styled residence, and beneath his feet the ground is concrete. Judging from the obvious shadow on the left side of his face, the photo seems to be taken against real scenery, but the artificial steps behind Ye Jinglü point to assistance with props from the studio.
