葉景呂的開八之年，是一幅黑紙剪影，這也是整本肖像冊中唯一不是銀鹽紙基的年度肖像。

關於葉景呂在這一年中沒有拍攝肖像的原因，可從剪紙旁的文字找到答案。這是緣於葉家發生了一起頗有些讓今人覺得有點不可思議的事情。年度肖像留下了葉景呂的形象，這張酷肖的剪影，依然留住了他的神采，也留給了後人無盡的想像與思考。

從1912年開始，葉景呂遵從新曆，一直以周歲來記載年齡，1952年他應為71周歲。但他卻在剪影旁寫道：“生辰年七十有二”，即72虛歲。他用把年齡再次改為虛歲的方式，試圖從自己生命中刪去這不堪回首的一年，這種計齡的方式也從此持續了下去。

他在剪影邊寫下：“一九五二年在余為污濁之年，故特用黑紙剪影以資儆惕，並誌悔過不忘之意耳。一為長子加入老母道，余被牽連受取締；二在五反時被長孫檢舉曾代親友售金。以上兩事雖經登記坦白免究，然總以生平無作惡貪污而蒙不潔之罪名殊為憾事。壬辰年虛度七十有二。＂

O retrato de Ye Jinglü no primeiro ano que conduz ao seu 80º aniversário é uma silhueta recortada em papel preto. É o único retrato que não é impresso em prata coloidal.

Os escritos ao lado do papel recortado indicam a razão pela qual a imagem deste ano é diferente de todas as outras. Esta silhueta nítida também capta o seu espírito, enquanto nos deixa um espaço infinito para a imaginação.

A partir de 1912 Ye Jinglü seguiu o novo calendário e registou a sua idade de acordo com a idade real, o que corresponderia a perfazer 71 anos em 1952. Mas nesta silhueta ele regista “com a idade de 72 anos” regressando à idade nominal, de modo a excluir um ano demasiado doloroso para recordar. Este tipo de registo da idade prosseguiu a partir daqui. Ele escreveu: “1952 foi um ano negro para mim, portanto decidi utilizar papel preto para recortar uma silhueta, sugerindo admoestação, vigilância e pesar inesquecível. Inicialmente isto deveu-se à minha preocupação com a possibilidade do meu filho mais velho, pertencente à organização secreta Laomu Dao, ser implicado e suprimido. Em seguida, durante as Cinco Anti-Campanhas, fui acusado pelo meu neto mais velho de vender ouro em nome de familiares; apesar dos dois incidentes estarem registados, a minha inocência foi provada e não sofri qualquer punição. Contudo, enquanto homem íntegro que nunca fez nada de mal, enfrentar falsas acusações de pecado é realmente um pesar vergonhoso”.

The writing beside the paper-cut supplies the reason this year’s image is different from all the rest. This vivid silhouette also captures his spirit while leaving us infinite space for imagination.

From 1912, Ye Jinglü followed the new calendar and recorded his age according to the full age, which would make him 71 years old in 1952. But on this silhouette he records “at the age of 72” changing back to nominal age, so as to delete a year too painful to recall. Such age recording continued from then on. He wrote: 1952 was a dark year for me, thus I deliberately used black paper for silhouette paper-cutting, suggesting admonishment, vigilance and unforgettable repentance. Firstly, this was due to participation in Laomu Dao, a secret organisation that my oldest son belonged to, worried that we would be implicated and suppressed. Secondly, during the Five-Anti Campaigns, I was accused by my oldest grandson of selling gold on behalf of relatives; although the above two incidents are on record I was proven innocent and received no punishment. As a righteousness man, however, who has never done anything evil, facing false accusations of sin is indeed a shameful regret.
