望七之年的葉景呂，在元旦這天拍下了本年的肖像照。他面帶溫和的微笑，穿著一身嶄新對襟短襖，又鄭重其事地在照片說明中寫道：“改服短裝留影紀念”。

中國從兩漢以來，歷史上的每一次改朝換代，新王朝都會發佈一個“易服色，改正朔”的諭令，也就是改變舊的服飾制度，啟用新的曆法，以示與舊王朝的區別。這一傳統也許還或多或少地影響著葉景呂。事實上，此後，對襟短襖或短褂就成為葉景呂拍攝肖像時的主要著裝，帽子則換成了當時盛行於幹部和工農群眾中的八角帽，而照片說明中的紀年，也統統改用西曆了。

相片右下角有英文“EASTMAN REGULAR”字樣，可見當時的相紙還是進口的。

Quase a completar 70 anos de idade, Ye Jinglü foi aqui fotografado no dia de ano novo, em 1950. Nas notas na parte de baixo da imagem escreveu: “uma fotografia para recordar a mudança para roupas curtas”. 

Ye Jinglü apresenta um sorriso gentil e veste um casaco curto forrado. Após a fundação da República Popular da China, os casacos curtos forrados ou túnicas curtas tornaram-se as suas vestes principais. A boina redonda foi substituída por um boné octogonal em linho que era muito popular na época. As palavras em inglês “EASTMAN REGULAR” mostram que naquela altura o papel fotográfico era importado.

Soon to be 70 years old, Ye Jinglü had this photo taken on New Year’s Day, 1950. In the notes below the picture he particularly writes “a photo for the memory of changing to short clothing.” 

Ye Jinglü has a gentle smile and wears a new lined short coat. After the foundation of the People’s Republic of China, lined short coats or short gowns became Ye Jinglü’s main attire. The round skullcap was replaced by an octagonal Lenin cap that enjoyed popularity at the time. The English words “EASTMAN REGULAR” show that photo paper was imported at the time.
